Today we are comparing two popular summer tyres, the Fulda EcoControl HP2 and the Maxxis Premitra HP5, considering various tyre tests and reviews to provide an accurate overview of each.

Fulda EcoControl HP2

The Fulda EcoControl HP2, a product from Fulda, is the successor to the Fulda EcoControl HP. This tyre received a total rating of 79% from us, demonstrating a solid performance. Looking at the Auto Bild 2024's test, the EcoControl HP2 stood out for its short dry braking distances, quiet exterior noise, and outstanding mileage. However, it showed some weaknesses in handling on dry roads.

In the Auto Bild and ADAC tyre tests, the EcoControl HP2 did well in terms of exterior noise and resistance to cross aquaplaning, bearing witness to its quality and reliable performance. Despite these strengths, the tyre ranked 20th out of 53 in the Auto Bild test, and 8th out of 15 in the ADAC one, indicating that there might be some areas for improvement.

Maxxis Premitra HP5

On the other hand, the Maxxis Premitra HP5 developed by Maxxis, has been rated 81% by our site, slightly higher than the EcoControl HP2. The Premitra HP5 stood out in the Auto Bild 2024 test for its good mileage and short dry braking distances, similar to the Fulda tyre. However, it also exhibited some flaws like delayed steering responses and mediocre grip levels on both wet and dry roads.

The Premitra HP5 performed well in safety, specifically in the elements of dry driving behaviour, cross aquaplaning, and wet circle cornering in the ADAC tyre test. Notably, the Maxxis tyre outperformed the Fulda tyre in these tests, ranking 9th out of 53 in Auto Bild's test and 10th out of 15 in ADAC's test.

Verdict

Both these tyres possess unique strengths and weaknesses. The Fulda EcoControl HP2 excels in mileage, noise level and resistance to cross aquaplaning. However, its handling on dry roads needs improvement. Meanwhile, the Maxxis Premitra HP5 shines in terms of safety and aquaplaning resistance, but could improve in its steering response and grip levels. Based on our comparison and various tyre test reviews, the Premitra HP5 seems to outperform the EcoControl HP2 overall, but the choice depends on the specific requirements and preferences of drivers.
