In this article, we will be comparing two popular summer tyres, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 and the Kumho Ecsta PS71. Both of these tyres have performed well in various tyre tests and are produced by reputed manufacturers Dunlop and Kumho, respectively.

The Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 is a Ultra-High-Performance (UUHP) summer tyre with an overall rating of 85%. In the Autobild test with 53 participating tyres, it secured the 11th position. One of its strengths includes having safe driving characteristics on wet surfaces and good aquaplaning qualities. Additionally, it boasts of short braking distance on dry roads. However, a minor drawback faced with this tyre is its delayed steering response on dry roads. There is no specific newer model of this tyre available.

On the other hand, the Kumho Ecsta PS71 is also a summer tyre with an overall rating of 79%. In the same Autobild test, it achieved 18th position. Some of its plus points include a high balance of performance, good handling qualities, short wet and dry braking distances, and a fair price. However, the tyre may produce an increased driving noise. Similar to the Dunlop tyre, there is currently no newer model available for this tyre either.

In the ADAC tyre test with 17 participating tyres, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 achieved 6th position, while the Kumho Ecsta PS71 secured 3rd position. The Kumho Ecsta PS71 was particularly praised for its exceptional performance on wet surfaces and for not having any significant weaknesses. Its best features include aquaplaning (cross and longitudinal) attributes.

In conclusion, both the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 and Kumho Ecsta PS71 are strong contenders in the tyre market, with each having its strengths and weaknesses. The Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 is known for its good wet performance and aquaplaning qualities, while the Kumho Ecsta PS71 excels in wet surface performance and handling. However, the Dunlop tyre has a slight steering delay issue on dry roads, and the Kumho tyre tends to produce increased driving noise. Overall, the choice between these two tyres depends on your preference for wet performance and handling or aquaplaning qualities, as the differences in ranking in both the Autobild and ADAC tests are not significantly wide.
