Today we will take a look at two popular tyre options: Hankook Ventus S1 Evo 2 K117 and Maxxis Premitra HP5. Both tyres are made by well-established manufacturers and we will examine their performance based on tests conducted by Autobild, ACE and Automotorsport.
Starting with the Hankook Ventus S1 Evo 2 K117, produced by Hankook. In our tests this model had fluctuating but generally decent results. Due to its strengths in dry driving behaviour, exterior noise, and wet braking, it managed to achieve the 4th place in the ACE test out of 11 total tyres. Moreover, it also secured 4th place among 10 tyres in the Automotorsport test and 6th position in the Autobild test. On the downside, it doesn’t have a newer model that replaced it. As for its rating, we sadly have to inform, we are yet to evaluate this model.
On the other hand, we have the Maxxis Premitra HP5, manufactured by Maxxis. This tyre stood out for its strong performance in exterior noise reduction as emphasized by Autobild and it marked its proficiency in dry handling according to ACE tests. This tyre managed to achieve 6th place in the ACE test out of 11 tyres and 9th position in the Autobild test while it fell short in the Automotorsport test where it landed in the 10th place out of 10. Despite this, the Maxxis readily eclipses the Hankook with an overall rating of 69% on our website. Unfortunately, just like the Hankook, the Maxxis also doesn’t have a newer model that replaced it.
In conclusion, weighing the results from the three tests, it is evident that both the Hankook Ventus S1 Evo 2 K117 and the Maxxis Premitra HP5 have their strengths and weaknesses. However, the Hankook had better overall positions in all three tests, and boasts great results for dry driving behaviour, exterior noise, and wet braking. The Maxxis, on the other hand, received high praise for its exterior noise reduction and dry handling abilities. Considering all the factors, potential buyers are encouraged to weigh these strengths based on their individual priorities when choosing between these tyres.
