Today, we're comparing two all-round tires: the Maxxis Premitra AS AP3 and Nexen N Blue 4 Season. Both manufactured in the CN (and also TR in the case of Nexen), these tyres deliver solid performance for their price points.

Starting off with the Maxxis Premitra AS AP3, this tire is rated at 63% by our experts. In tests run by Autobild, the Premitra AS AP3 was placed 4th out of 31 tires tested. Its strengths include wet circle cornering, exterior noise levels, and aquaplaning ability. In fact, it performed exceedingly well in the aquaplaning tests, both in longitude and crosswise assessments. However, the tire received a more mixed assessment in Autobild's 2022 review, with the publication criticising its delayed steering response and understeering performance under all weather conditions. The reviewers also pointed out limitations in terms of tire lifespan and economy.

On the other hand, we have the Nexen N Blue 4 Season, which has a slightly lower rating from our experts at 62%. However, this tire fared well in Autobild's tests, placing 7th out of 31. Proven to have exceptional mileage and value, the tire also boasts good comfort, noise levels, and snow cornering performance. One point to note, however, is that the Nexen N Blue 4 has been replaced by a newer model, the Nexen N Blue 4 Season 2 (see all Nexen tyres). In regards to its performance, the review from Autobild 2022 highlighted its considerable winter qualities, impressive tire lifespan, and competitive price level. Nevertheless, the tire was critiqued for understeering on both wet and dry tracks, extended wet braking distances, and increased rolling resistance.

In conclusion, both tires offer good value for their price, and are competitive options in the allround tire category. While the Maxxis Premitra AS AP3 particularly stands out for its superior aquaplaning qualities, the Nexen N Blue 4 Season provides reliable winter performance and greater mileage. However, potential buyers of the latter might want to consider investing in the newer Nexen N Blue 4 Season 2 model instead for the most updated technology and benefits from Nexen.
